OFF!

OFF! at the 6th Street Warehouse, Photo: Sean Peterson

I've been catching word here and there about Keith Morris's (Black Flag / Circle Jerks) latest band, OFF!, but hadn't actually heard a note until today, and I gotta say, I'm pretty damn impressed. Classic, early Black Flag style, Southern California hardcore, played hard, loud and dirty.

Keith's joined by Bassist, Steve McDonald (Redd Kross), drummer, Mario Rubalcaba (411, Clikatat Ikatowi, Rocket From The Crypt, Hot Snakes) and guitarist, Dimitri Coats. It looks like OFF! will be releasing their first EP, tomorrow, October 12th, which will include a limited edition Raymond Pettibon poster. Cool stuff, so lay into the videos and check the links for more details. -Tim DCXX

It's amazing that this 50 year old guy seems to be a better performer than most of the stuff that comes out these days.

I just saw these guys in Chicago the other night and they were arguably (and in my opinion) the best band of the entire Riot Fest. They pretty much took everyone to school. Certainly none of the older bands could compare, eg, Negative Approach or Bad Religion.

I skipped this show to hit the Articles of Faith show up the street. I'm not kicking myself for it, but I wish I would have left home a bit earlier to be able to catch both bands. I also heard that Morris wasn't all that kind towards Hetson's guitar playing. They'll be back!

Mario plays drums in the mighty Earthless as well...one of the best live acts we have on the West Coast

I am really shocked that there aren't any people here posting about how this sucks. Cause... it sucks.

That's just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to one. But... isn't just kinda the height of silliness? It's called OFF! That's like a joke my Dad would make. Just seems sad to me.

And $25 RVCA shirts? Cool? I guess?

Will there be a Debbie Gibson guest spot on their record?

Not trying to be a "hater" but this is just boring bullshit.

Not going to diss you for your comment... but maybe you could be clearer? Why is that like a joke your dad would make?

We all have our soft spots, and this band gets all of mine. I think they have the sound they want down solid. This is the original sound that drew me to punk/HC so many years ago. Morris was doing it then and he is doing it now. It just makes sense to me.

Woah, this is seriously the best hardcore record I have heard in awhile. I kind of ignored news of this band for awhile and am really glad Double Cross posted this videos. I will definitely be picking up this ep.

Thanks guys!

It sounds good, but I bet a couple of them (OK, Morris & McDonald) have been dissing hardcore for years (wasn't McDonald in Anarchy 6 years ago?) yet here they are again.

Sounds good, but I can't help but think they'll cater to the bar scene.

I was thinking that the name is in reference to Black Flag...Both being household aerosol sprays. No?
